What is an Esthetician?
Estheticians are skin professionals who provide cosmetic treatments to clients and provide advice on how to maintain and care for their skin, body and overall appearance.
As an Esthetician you will undergo instruction and training on a variety of different treatments and procedures which can include:
- Manicure & pedicure
- Body wraps & body scrubs

- Waxing
- Deep cleansing
- Dermaplaning
- Threading
- Therapeutic massage
- Make up
- Chemical peels
- Extractions
- The use of modalities
In Canada (different locations may have different requirements) you will need to become certified by enrolling in a recognized esthetics course, it typically takes between 6 month to 2 years to complete the necessary courses depending on whether you go to a private vocational school or college. As part of the course you will learn skin diseases and disorders, skin types and physiology you will also learn the about the different systems of the body, alongside how to perform the core nail, body and skin treatments that an Esthetician is required to perform. You will also be taught about skin care products, active ingredients and the equipment that an Esthetician may be required to use. The course will be taught as a combination of classroom based learning and hands on practical experience.
Depending on your location you may need a license or there may be other requirements aside from gaining your certification that you will need if you intend to practice as an Esthetician, research what is required in your location and make sure that any required licensing or any other requirement needed is kept up to date.
Once you have completed your academic training then the job market for Estheticians is in high demand compared to the broader job market, with advancements in technology, procedures and consumer needs the demand for Estheticians is expected to remain high for the foreseeable future.
As an Esthetician aside from the practical skills learnt at school or college you will need to have good communication and interpersonal skills, this is important as the role of an Esthetician is client facing so you will need to be able to listen to and understand client needs as well being able to build rapport which will help in creating repeat customers as well as upselling from which commissions may be earned (depending on your compensation structure).
Should you wish to work abroad there are internationally recognized courses enabling you to gain qualifications which will allow you to work outside of Canada. This would allow you to gain a better understanding of the health and wellness industry globally which could open further opportunities.
Typically Estheticians will work in spas or salons, however Estheticians may also work in other environments, for example you may:
- Work at award ceremonies providing esthetic services;
- Work within a corporate office delivering training
- Work in college as an educator
- Work in clinical settings working alongside physicians and medical aestheticians

What is contingency recruitment?
Contingency recruitment is a method where a company hires a recruitment agency to find candidates for a job opening, but the agency only gets paid a fee if the candidate they present is successfully hired by the company; essentially, it’s a “no placement, no fee” model where the recruiter’s commission is contingent on filling the position. The risk is totally with us, if we don’t hire one of our candidates then there is no fee to pay.
Am I able to try and fill a position that you are working on?
Absolutely, we only ask that you keep us updated as to progress – we don’t want to approach a candidate that you are currently talking to and giving a mixed message. If you find and employ the right candidate then there is no fee to pay

We are very proud to say that our success rate in finding the right person for a particular position is 95%. We achieve this by thoroughly understanding the role and the personality of the individual you are looking for for. A successful placement matches not only the skill set, experience and aptitude that you are looking for but we also ensure that the candidate also has the right personality to fit with your existing team.
How long does it take to find the right person to fill a vacancy?
Our process normally takes 6 – 8 weeks from taking the instruction to the client making an offer.
What is the contingency recruitment process?
Initially we will learn about the position, the business and team – we understand that the best fit will not only meet your experience requirements but will also have the right personality to fit in with your existing team.
Once we have a thorough understanding of the role and environment we will commence our search, we have an extensive database of both active and passive professionals, and we network to find the best candidates for the role.

Why should I use your job board?
Not all positions need contingency recruitment, we tend to find that positions with a sales element or senior management positions work the best for this method of recruitment for other position we suggest that the job board may be a more cost effective route; or, you may want to try recruiting for a position yourself and want to place your job advert in front of relevant industry professionals.
